Description

Landing in the US without a working data plan usually means standing in an airport kiosk line or burning through $12/day in roaming fees before you've even cleared baggage claim. A Blikst US eSIM sidesteps both — your plan runs on T-Mobile, the carrier that independent testers (Ookla, Opensignal) consistently rank at or near the top for 5G reach in the country, with solid 4G fallback when 5G isn't there.

Where T-Mobile's network works best

The entire Northeast corridor from Boston down through DC, all of coastal California, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, and Dallas get strong 5G. T-Mobile historically lagged on rural coverage but has closed much of the gap on 600 MHz "Extended Range" bands — you'll keep a signal on most Interstate corridors. The weaker spots are still parts of rural Montana, Wyoming, the Dakotas, and stretches of the Appalachian interior. National parks are mixed: Yellowstone has almost no coverage outside Mammoth and Old Faithful; Zion and Yosemite have patchy signal near main visitor centres only.

Cost vs. roaming or a local SIM

UK and EU carriers charge £5–£7 per day for US roaming. Most Australian carriers are A$10–$15/day. A 30-day 10 GB Blikst plan undercuts a week of those daily fees. Picking up a local prepaid SIM in the States is possible but clunky: most T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon prepaid plans require a US address for activation online, and in-store activation eats an hour of your arrival day.

Arrival and activation

Install the eSIM profile before you fly — airport Wi-Fi at JFK, LAX, ORD, ATL, DFW and SFO is free but painfully slow at peak times. The line activates the first time it registers on a T-Mobile tower after you land. Turn off data roaming on your home SIM or you'll get billed twice. If you're connecting through Canada or Mexico first, the plan won't activate until you're physically inside US borders.

Apps that will eat your data

  • Uber and Lyft: Default for getting anywhere without a car. Both apps are data-light but constant in the background.
  • Google Maps / Apple Maps: Driving distances in the US are huge; pre-cache offline maps for road trips through national parks and rural states where signal drops.
  • Toll and transit apps: ExpressLanes, SunPass (Florida), E-ZPass Go (Northeast), MTA TrainTime (New York), and the TAP app in LA all need live data at the gate.
  • Venmo, Zelle, Cash App: Restaurants and smaller vendors increasingly prefer these over card-splits. Tourists can't sign up for most of them, but receiving money or splitting with a US host requires data.
  • Delivery apps: DoorDash, Uber Eats, Instacart. Handy when jet-lag hits at 9pm and the hotel restaurant closed at 8.

Road-trip and cross-state notes

If your plan takes you through the Rockies, the Southwest deserts, or the Pacific Northwest backroads, assume data will drop. Download Google Maps offline for every state you cross, plus Spotify/Apple Music offline playlists for the long stretches. T-Mobile's 600 MHz covers Interstates well but once you're on state routes through Wyoming or northern Nevada, you're on your own.

Plan sizing for typical trips

A weekend in New York or a 4-day LA trip sits comfortably in 3 GB. One-week East Coast or West Coast itinerary: 5–10 GB. Two-week cross-country road trip with navigation-heavy driving: 20 GB. A month of remote work from a Brooklyn or Austin co-working space: 50 GB or higher, especially if you're video-calling home during the day.

Install the profile, board the flight, land connected. You keep your home number for SMS codes from your bank, and the Blikst line handles everything data-related until you're back through customs on the return.

eSIM FAQ

An eSIM, or Embedded SIM, is a digital SIM that allows you to activate a mobile plan without using a physical SIM card. It is built directly into your smartphone, smartwatch, or tablet and provides the same functionality as a physical SIM. With eSIM, switching between carriers or adding a secondary number becomes seamless and hassle-free.

Getting an eSIM is simple! Check if your device supports eSIM technology. Then, purchase an eSIM plan from your preferred carrier or from our website. After purchase, you’ll receive a QR code or activation details to set up the eSIM on your device in minutes.

Most modern smartphones, including the latest iPhones, Samsung Galaxy models, and Google Pixel devices, are eSIM compatible. Check your device settings under “Cellular” or “Mobile Data” to see if eSIM options are available. Alternatively, refer to your device’s specifications or contact us for guidance.

The number of eSIMs you can have depends on your device. For example, most iPhones allow multiple eSIM profiles but only one active eSIM at a time. Some Android devices support dual-active eSIMs, giving you more flexibility. Check your device’s specifications for details.

Activating an eSIM involves a few easy steps: 1. Purchase an eSIM plan from our website or your carrier. 2. Scan the provided QR code using your device’s camera or enter the activation code manually. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to add the eSIM profile to your device. Once activated, your eSIM is ready to use!

To activate an eSIM on iPhone: 1. Go to Settings > Cellular > Add Cellular Plan. 2. Scan the QR code from your eSIM provider or enter the activation details manually. 3. Choose your preferred settings for data, calls, and messaging, then tap Done. Your eSIM is now set up and ready to use.

Yes, eSIM offers several advantages over traditional SIM cards: Convenience: No physical SIM card required. Flexibility: Easily switch between carriers or plans. Space-saving: Frees up internal space in devices for additional features. Eco-friendly: Reduces plastic waste. Upgrade to eSIM and experience seamless connectivity like never before.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to transfer your USA eSIM using the same QR code, as QR codes can only be scanned once for security reasons. If you wish to use your eSIM on a new device, you will need to contact your carrier to request a new activation code or QR code. Once issued, you can set up the eSIM on your new device following the standard activation process.
