Description

One QR code, fourteen countries, no hunting for a SIM kiosk in every arrivals hall. The Blikst Asia regional eSIM stitches together local carrier agreements across Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines via partners, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Uzbekistan — the line auto-switches to whichever partner network has the strongest signal the moment you cross a border. If you're doing the classic Bangkok-KL-Singapore backpacker loop or a longer Tokyo-Seoul-Taipei business circuit, you keep the same plan and the same data pool the whole way.

How the regional network actually works

The plan roams across SingTel in Singapore, Hutchison in Hong Kong and Indonesia, Maxis in Malaysia, One NZ in New Zealand, Jazz in Pakistan, SK Telecom in South Korea, Mobitel in Sri Lanka, Taiwan Mobile/Chunghwa in Taiwan, Advanced Info Service in Thailand, Unitel/Uzmobile in Uzbekistan, and MOBIFONE in Vietnam. You don't pick the carrier — the eSIM picks whichever has the best signal where you are. Speeds go up to 3G/4G/5G depending on country: 5G is common in Singapore, Seoul, Taipei, Sydney, Auckland and urban Hong Kong; Vietnam and Thailand run solid 4G; rural Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan fall back to 3G.

Border behaviour

When you fly Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh City or take the ferry from Langkawi to Koh Lipe, the eSIM re-registers on the local partner automatically within a few minutes of you landing or clearing immigration and switching out of airplane mode. You don't need to toggle anything. The one thing to know: the data pool is shared across all countries — 10 GB means 10 GB total for the trip, not 10 GB per country. Plan sizing accordingly.

Cost vs. buying local SIMs in every country

A traditional backpacker plan is to buy a local SIM at each airport — that's $5–$15 per country, plus queuing, plus a new number every time. A two-week Thailand-Vietnam-Singapore-Malaysia run is easily $40–$60 in SIMs and an hour of lost time at four airports. A Blikst Asia regional plan is one purchase and activates before you leave home. US and AU carriers typically charge $10–$15 per day for Asia roaming; compare that to a 30-day 10 GB plan and it's not close.

Activation and airport arrival

Install the profile on Wi-Fi at home before you fly — scan the QR, confirm the eSIM line, and leave mobile data off until you land. The plan activates on first data use in any covered country. If your first stop is Singapore Changi (SIN), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK), Hong Kong (HKG), Tokyo Narita or Haneda is not covered on this plan — check the country list carefully. Common arrival hubs on the covered list include Sydney (SYD), Auckland (AKL), Singapore (SIN), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Bangkok (BKK), Hanoi (HAN), Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), Seoul Incheon (ICN), Taipei Taoyuan (TPE), Hong Kong (HKG), Colombo (CMB), Karachi (KHI), and Tashkent (TAS).

Apps that eat data across the region

  • Grab (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines) — ride-hailing, food delivery, and QR payments in one app. The default for urban SE Asia.
  • GoJek in Indonesia — the local equivalent; works in Jakarta, Bali, and Yogyakarta.
  • KakaoTaxi and Naver Maps in South Korea — Google Maps transit data in Korea is incomplete; Naver is the real one.
  • LINE in Taiwan, Thailand and Japan-adjacent travel — how hotels and tour operators message you.
  • WhatsApp across South Asia and Australia/NZ — the default comms channel.
  • Translation camera mode — heavy on data in Thai, Chinese, Korean and Arabic-script Uzbek menu scenarios.

Plan sizing by trip length

A one-week two-country hop (say Singapore + KL) runs fine on 3–5 GB. A two-week four-country SE Asia loop needs 10 GB. A month-long Asia grand tour hitting six or seven countries with heavy maps use and some video calls home should start at 20 GB. If you're remote-working from Bali, Chiang Mai or Taipei for the duration, go 50 GB or pick up a dedicated country plan for your base.

Install before you fly, land anywhere in the covered list, and keep the same line for the whole region.

eSIM FAQ

The Blikst Asia regional eSIM covers fourteen places on one plan: Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Uzbekistan. It's built for multi-country trips, so whether you're doing the Bangkok to KL to Singapore backpacker loop or a longer Tokyo to Seoul to Taipei circuit, you keep the same line and the same data pool the whole way.

It roams across local partners in each country: SingTel in Singapore, Hutchison in Hong Kong and Indonesia, Maxis in Malaysia, One NZ in New Zealand, Jazz in Pakistan, SK Telecom in South Korea, Mobitel in Sri Lanka, Taiwan Mobile or Chunghwa in Taiwan, Advanced Info Service in Thailand, Unitel or Uzmobile in Uzbekistan, and MOBIFONE in Vietnam. Speeds run up to 3G, 4G and 5G depending on where you are. You don't pick the carrier, the eSIM does.

Yes, it's a single plan with one shared data pool across all fourteen countries. When you cross a border, fly Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh City or take a ferry between islands, the eSIM re-registers on the strongest local partner automatically within a few minutes of you landing and coming out of airplane mode. You don't toggle anything. Just remember the data is shared, so 10 GB means 10 GB total for the trip, not per country.

Right after purchase you'll get a confirmation email with your eSIM details and a QR code. Install the profile over Wi-Fi at home before you fly, scan the QR, confirm the eSIM line, and leave mobile data off until you land. The plan activates automatically on first data use in any covered country, so you get connectivity the moment you arrive. Setting up at home means you're online within minutes of landing.

Most modern smartphones work fully with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so check our detailed compatibility list to be sure. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. On an iPhone you can confirm eSIM support under Settings then General then About, where you'll see an EID number; on Android it's in the network settings. If both are present and the handset is unlocked, you're good to go.

It depends on how far you're roaming. A one-week, two-country hop like Singapore plus KL runs fine on 3 to 5 GB. A two-week, four-country Southeast Asia loop suits about 10 GB. A month-long grand tour across six or seven countries with heavy maps and some video calls home should start at 20 GB. If you're remote-working from Bali, Chiang Mai or Taipei, go 50 GB. Maps and translation camera mode are the big data drains.

Yes, tethering and hotspot are supported, so you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or a travel companion's phone. Bear in mind the data pool is shared across the whole region and the entire trip, so hotspot use draws from the same allowance as your phone. If you plan to tether often or work remotely, size up your plan, for example to 20 or 50 GB, so you don't run dry mid-trip.

This is a data-only plan, so it doesn't come with a local phone number for traditional calls or SMS. In practice that's rarely a problem, you call and message over the internet using apps like WhatsApp, which is the default across South Asia and Australia and New Zealand, or FaceTime. Because the eSIM is a separate digital line, your physical home SIM can stay in the phone, keeping your usual number active for anything important.
