Description

The Europe regional plan covers 36 countries from the UK and Ireland across to Turkey, including every EU member state, most of the Balkans and the Nordics, and the Canary Islands. A Blikst Europe eSIM runs on a rotating set of national carriers — Vodafone, Orange, Tele2, O2, Telia, Three, Telemach, Proximus, NOS, Salt, Avea, Turkcell, and others — at 3G / 4G / 5G speeds depending on the country. It's the right profile for any multi-country European trip: Eurostar through Paris-Brussels-Amsterdam, a Rome-to-Lisbon rail loop, or the classic Scandinavian Nordkapp run.

Coverage across the continent

Western Europe — France, Germany, Benelux, Italy, Spain, Portugal, UK, Ireland — has blanket 4G / 5G in cities and along all major autobahns, autopistas, and autoroutes. Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland) have strong urban coverage and good highway coverage, with the usual thinning in Lapland and the Norwegian fjords north of Tromsø. Southern Europe (Greek islands, Croatian Dalmatian coast, Maltese archipelago) has solid 4G at settlements and drops between islands on ferry crossings. Eastern EU (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria) has improved dramatically and now matches Western EU on main routes. Turkey is included and has excellent coverage in Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir, and the Mediterranean coast; eastern provinces are thinner.

Border behaviour inside the plan

The eSIM hands off between national carriers automatically as you cross borders. Schengen is transparent — you won't even notice most border crossings now — and the profile re-registers on the new country's partner network within minutes of the handoff. Train travellers on Eurostar, Thalys, ICE, Frecciarossa, and the Caledonian Sleeper will see the network name change as you cross. Ferry crossings (Dover-Calais, Barcelona-Mallorca, Piraeus-Santorini, Helsinki-Tallinn) reconnect as the ferry nears port; the eSIM spends most of the sea crossing looking for a tower.

What's NOT covered

Several European countries sit outside the EU's primary roaming frameworks and are not in this plan: Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, and the South Caucasus states (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan). Russia, Kosovo, and North Macedonia have variable inclusion depending on plan. Check the coverage list before departure if your route touches the Western Balkans or the post-Soviet states. For those destinations, country-specific Blikst plans apply.

Cost vs. country-by-country plans or roaming

EU-resident travellers already have Roam Like at Home inside the EU, which is hard to beat for an EU-only trip. This regional plan shines for non-EU travellers — UK-based after Brexit, US, Canadian, Australian, Asian — where home-carrier EU roaming runs $8–$12 per day and a six-country trip would cost the equivalent of a decent hotel night just in phone bills. It also shines for itineraries that cross into Turkey, Iceland, or the Balkans (where the plan applies) beyond EU-only coverage.

Arrival across the European hubs

Install the profile on home Wi-Fi before you fly. The eSIM attaches on arrival at any major European airport — LHR, CDG, AMS, FRA, MAD, BCN, FCO, MXP, ATH, VIE, ZRH, CPH, ARN, HEL, IST, and smaller regionals — on whichever national carrier is the plan's partner in that country.

Local apps that travel well across Europe

  • Google Maps and Citymapper: Both work across the continent. Citymapper is strongest in London, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Milan, and Amsterdam for multi-modal routing.
  • Bolt, FreeNow, Uber: Ride-hailing mix varies by country. Bolt is widespread in Eastern and Nordic Europe; FreeNow dominates German-speaking countries; Uber is strong in UK, France, Spain, and Portugal.
  • Trainline, Omio, DB Navigator, SNCF Connect, Trenitalia, Renfe: Rail booking apps. Trainline and Omio aggregate; the national apps often offer discounts the aggregators don't.
  • Revolut, Wise, Apple Pay, Google Pay: Contactless is universal in most of Europe. Cash matters most in Austria, Germany, and parts of Italy.
  • EasyPark and PayByPhone: Street parking apps used across many European cities.

Plan sizing by trip length

A one-week two-country trip works on 5 GB. A two-week multi-country itinerary (say, Paris-Amsterdam-Berlin-Prague-Vienna) wants 10 GB. Three-week grand tours covering 6+ countries fit 20 GB. Interrail passengers on a month-long European summer typically end up on 50 GB.

Install at home, fly to any European hub, and the profile attaches on arrival to whichever local carrier is the plan's partner.

eSIM FAQ

It covers 36 countries from the UK and Ireland across to Turkey, taking in every EU member state plus much of the Balkans and the Nordics. That includes France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, the Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland), Greece, Croatia, Poland, Czechia, Hungary, Romania, the Canary Islands, Turkey and more. Note that Serbia, Bosnia, Albania, Ukraine, Moldova and the South Caucasus are not included.

The eSIM runs on a rotating set of national carriers rather than one operator. Depending on the country you are in, that means Vodafone, Orange, Tele2, O2, Telia, Three, Telemach, Proximus, NOS, Salt, Avea, Turkcell, Hutchison and others. Speeds are 3G, 4G or 5G depending on the country. Western Europe has blanket 4G and 5G in cities and along major motorways, while remote areas like Lapland and the Norwegian fjords thin out.

Yes. This single profile hands off between national carriers automatically as you cross borders, re-registering on the new country's partner network within minutes. Schengen crossings are transparent, so you often won't notice them. On trains like Eurostar, Thalys, ICE and Frecciarossa you'll see the network name change as you cross. On ferries such as Dover to Calais or Piraeus to Santorini, the connection reconnects as the boat nears port.

After you buy, you'll get a confirmation email with your eSIM details within minutes. Install the profile while you're on home Wi-Fi before you fly by scanning the QR code provided. Activation is automatic: the eSIM activates on arrival in Europe and attaches at any major hub such as Heathrow, Charles de Gaulle, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Madrid, Rome or Istanbul, connecting to whichever local carrier is the plan's partner in that country.

Most modern smartphones are fully compatible, though a few exceptions exist, so check Blikst's detailed compatibility list to confirm your device. Your phone also needs to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. On an iPhone, go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID number; on Android, check the network or SIM settings. If your device shows an EID and is unlocked, you're good to go.

It depends on how far you roam. A one-week, two-country trip works comfortably on 5 GB. A two-week multi-country itinerary, say Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague and Vienna, wants around 10 GB. Three-week grand tours covering six or more countries fit 20 GB. Interrail travellers on a month-long European summer typically end up on 50 GB. Maps and navigation are usually the biggest drain when you move between cities daily.

Yes, tethering and hotspot use are supported, so you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or a travelling companion's phone. This is handy on long train journeys or in accommodation without reliable Wi-Fi. Keep in mind that hotspot use draws from the same data allowance and tends to consume it faster, especially with video streaming or large downloads, so pick a plan size that leaves headroom if you tether often.

This is a data-only plan, so it doesn't come with a local phone number for traditional calls or SMS. You can still call and message over the internet using apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, Signal or Telegram, which work fine on the data connection. Because the eSIM is a separate digital line, you can leave your physical home SIM in the phone to keep your own number for important calls and texts.
