Description

The North America regional plan covers the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico on a single profile — the cross-border combination most travellers actually use, whether that's a Toronto-Buffalo-New York road trip, a Vancouver-Seattle crossing, or a San Diego-Tijuana-Cabo flight. A Blikst North America eSIM runs on T-Mobile in the US and Puerto Rico, Rogers in Canada, and Pegaso (Movistar / Telefónica México) in Mexico at 3G / 4G / 5G speeds, depending on where your device is attached.

Coverage across the US

T-Mobile's US 5G footprint is now broad — all major metros, most interstates, and growing rural reach through the 600 MHz and mid-band networks. Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, and Seattle all have strong 5G. Interstate corridors (I-5, I-10, I-40, I-80, I-95) hold 4G / 5G most of their length. National parks are the usual gap — Yellowstone interior, Yosemite Valley, most of Glacier, and the Grand Canyon rim village have patchy coverage, with the exception of Old Faithful and Yosemite Lodge areas where T-Mobile has improved. Big Bend, the Everglades, and the Maine interior have long dead zones.

Coverage across Canada and Mexico

In Canada, Rogers' 4G / 5G reaches Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, and Halifax with full strength, and Highway 401, Highway 1 (Trans-Canada), and the Coquihalla in BC hold 4G most of the way. Yukon, Northwest Territories, and most of the North should be treated as offline-first. In Mexico, Pegaso / Movistar has strong 4G in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Cancún, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Vallarta, and Los Cabos. The Yucatán cenote routes, Oaxaca's Sierra Norte, and the Copper Canyon drop to 3G or nothing between towns.

Border behaviour

The plan hands off between T-Mobile, Rogers, and Pegaso automatically based on whichever network your phone registers on. Crossing from the US into Canada at any of the major land borders (Peace Bridge, Blaine, Sault Ste Marie), the Rogers tower picks up within a kilometre of the line. Crossing into Mexico at San Ysidro, Nogales, or El Paso / Juárez moves you onto Pegaso. The handoff at Puerto Rico (SJU) puts you on T-Mobile PR. The profile does not roam into Central America or the Caribbean beyond Puerto Rico; for those, a dedicated Caribbean or country-specific plan is the right choice.

Cost vs. single-country plans or roaming

T-Mobile's US prepaid and Rogers' Canadian tourist packs work well for single-country trips but don't carry across the border cleanly. AT&T International Day Pass, Verizon TravelPass, and most Canadian carriers' US roaming add-ons run $10–$12 per day. For a two-week mixed US-Canada or US-Mexico itinerary, the North America eSIM avoids the daily roaming stack and keeps a single data pool across all three countries.

Arrival and activation

Install the profile on home Wi-Fi before you fly. The eSIM registers on whichever network sees your device first — T-Mobile at JFK, LAX, ORD, SEA, MIA, or ATL; Rogers at YYZ, YVR, YUL, or YYC; Pegaso at MEX, CUN, GDL, or SJD. Land borders work the same way. If you're transiting through a US airport on the way to Mexico, the plan will touch T-Mobile briefly, then swing to Pegaso on your next landing.

Local apps that matter across all three

  • Uber and Lyft: Universal in US cities. Uber dominates Mexico; Didi and Cabify are strong in some Mexican metros. Canada runs Uber plus local taxi apps.
  • Google Maps and Apple Maps: Both work well across the region. Mexican rural coverage in Google Maps has improved significantly.
  • Waze: Particularly useful in Mexico City and LA traffic.
  • Transit apps: Citymapper (NYC, SF, LA, Toronto, Montreal), TfL-equivalent (MTA, TTC, STM), and Metro CDMX's official app.
  • WhatsApp: Universal in Mexico; increasingly common in US border regions and Miami.

Plan sizing by trip length

A one-week US-only trip works on 5 GB. A two-week mixed itinerary (say, NYC-Toronto-Montreal, or LA-San Diego-Tijuana-Cabo) wants 10 GB. Three-week cross-continent road trips fit 20 GB. Digital nomads moving between Mexico City, Austin, and Toronto for a month should go 50 GB.

Install at home, fly, and the profile attaches to whichever carrier — T-Mobile, Rogers, or Pegaso — your device meets first.

eSIM FAQ

The North America regional plan covers four places on a single profile: the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. It's built for the cross-border trips travellers actually take, like a Toronto-Buffalo-New York road trip, a Vancouver-Seattle crossing, or a San Diego-Tijuana-Cabo run. Note that it does not roam into Central America or the wider Caribbean beyond Puerto Rico, so for those you'll want a dedicated plan.

It runs on three carriers at 3G, 4G and 5G speeds, depending on where your device attaches. In the USA and Puerto Rico you're on T-Mobile, whose 5G now reaches all major metros and most interstates. In Canada you're on Rogers, with full 4G and 5G in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa and Halifax. In Mexico you're on Pegaso (Movistar / Telefonica Mexico), with strong 4G across the main cities and resort areas.

Yes. It's a single profile with one shared data pool, and it hands off between T-Mobile, Rogers and Pegaso automatically based on whichever network your phone registers on. Cross from the US into Canada at a major land border like the Peace Bridge or Blaine and the Rogers tower picks up within a kilometre. Cross into Mexico at San Ysidro, Nogales or El Paso and you move onto Pegaso. Arriving at SJU in Puerto Rico puts you on T-Mobile PR.

After you buy, you'll get a confirmation email with your eSIM details, usually within minutes. Install the profile while you're still on home Wi-Fi before you fly by scanning the QR code provided. Activation is automatic: the eSIM registers on whichever network sees your device first and switches on when you arrive in North America. So it attaches to T-Mobile at JFK or LAX, Rogers at YYZ or YVR, or Pegaso at MEX or CUN, with no manual setup needed.

Most modern smartphones work flawlessly with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so it's worth checking our detailed compatibility list before you buy. Your handset also needs to be carrier-unlocked. To confirm eSIM support, on an iPhone go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID number; on Android, check the network or SIM settings. If you see an EID or an eSIM option, you're good to go.

It depends on your trip. A one-week US-only visit works comfortably on 5 GB. A two-week mixed itinerary, say NYC-Toronto-Montreal or LA-San Diego-Tijuana-Cabo, suits about 10 GB. A three-week cross-continent road trip fits 20 GB. If you're a digital nomad moving between Mexico City, Austin and Toronto for a month, go for 50 GB. Maps and navigation are usually the biggest drain when you're driving between cities daily.

Yes, tethering and hotspot use are supported, so you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or a travelling companion's phone. This is handy for working from a cafe in Mexico City or keeping the family online on a long drive across the US or Canada. Just remember that hotspot use draws from the same shared data pool, so heavier sharing like video streaming will get through your allowance faster.

These are data plans, so they're built for mobile internet rather than a traditional phone line or local number. The easy way to call and message is over the internet using apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, Messenger or Zoom, which is exactly how most travellers stay in touch. WhatsApp in particular is universal in Mexico. Because the eSIM is a separate digital line, you can leave your physical home SIM in the phone and keep your usual number active for important texts.
