Description

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a 32-island chain where the main island is quieter than it should be and the smaller ones — Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau, Union, the Tobago Cays — are the reason you bought the ticket. A Blikst SVG eSIM runs on Digicel, the dominant Caribbean carrier, at 3G / 4G speeds across most inhabited islands.

Coverage across the chain

Kingstown on St Vincent has solid 4G. The leeward and windward coast roads on the main island have continuous signal except in a few forested valleys on the windward side. Bequia — the most-visited Grenadine — has 4G around Port Elizabeth and Admiralty Bay and 3G at Princess Margaret Beach and Industry. Mustique has signal around Britannia Bay. Canouan, Mayreau, and Union have 3G to 4G near the main settlements and airstrips. The Tobago Cays — being uninhabited — have signal from neighbouring islands when conditions are right, and not much otherwise.

Cost vs. local SIM

Digicel and Flow (Cable & Wireless) both sell local SIMs at Argyle International (SVD) and in Kingstown, but the hassle of registration after a long flight isn't most travellers' idea of a good start. Home-carrier roaming rates for SVG are typically $10–$15/day. A Blikst plan sized to your trip comes in well under that.

Arrival at Argyle (SVD) or Canouan (CIW)

Most international travellers arrive at SVD on St Vincent and either stay on the main island or connect via small plane or ferry to the Grenadines. Canouan (CIW) handles some direct private and charter flights. Install the eSIM before you fly. SVD's free Wi-Fi is available but slow at peak. If you're arriving by yacht from St Lucia, Barbados, or Grenada, you'll clear customs at Kingstown, Bequia, or Union — your Blikst line switches to Digicel SVG at that point.

Apps travellers actually use

  • WhatsApp: Captains, villa managers, and dive shops all communicate through it. Book any Tobago Cays day trip and you'll get the pickup time via WhatsApp the morning-of.
  • Google Maps: St Vincent and Bequia are mapped; Mayreau, Union, and smaller islands are thinner. Download offline maps before ferry hops.
  • Windy and PredictWind: Trade winds and squalls between the islands affect ferry crossings and snorkel days. Sailors especially check these before any Bequia-to-Tobago Cays run.
  • Bequia Express and Admiralty Transport: Ferry operators between Kingstown and Bequia. Schedules are posted online and on Facebook — plan crossings the day before.
  • SVG Air and Mustique Airways: Inter-island puddle-jumper schedules. Book and confirm the day of travel; weather cancellations happen.

Sailing and Tobago Cays notes

The Tobago Cays are the visual peak of any SVG trip and functionally offline — there's signal from Union and Mayreau when the wind is right but no cell tower in the Cays themselves. Plan any communication before the day trip and let your captain handle VHF for anything time-critical. Turtle swims, reef snorkels, and the horseshoe reef are best treated as fully unplugged hours.

Plan sizing for typical trips

A long weekend on Bequia: 1–2 GB. A one-week St Vincent + Bequia combination: 3 GB. A one-week bareboat or crewed charter down the Grenadines chain: 3–5 GB (you'll be on the water much of the time). Two weeks including St Vincent, Bequia, Mustique or Canouan, and Union: 5–10 GB. A month working remotely from a Bequia villa: 10–20 GB — villa Wi-Fi on the smaller islands is not always reliable.

Install the eSIM before you fly into SVD, land with a working line, and skip the in-terminal SIM registration before your small-plane hop or ferry out to the Grenadines.

eSIM FAQ

The Blikst Saint Vincent and the Grenadines eSIM runs on Digicel, the dominant carrier across the Caribbean. You get 3G and 4G speeds across most inhabited islands in the chain. That is plenty for maps, WhatsApp, booking ferries and confirming day trips, though you should not expect 5G or fast video streaming everywhere you go among the smaller Grenadines.

Kingstown on St Vincent has solid 4G, and the leeward and windward coast roads keep signal except in a few forested valleys on the windward side. Bequia has 4G around Port Elizabeth and Admiralty Bay, with 3G at Princess Margaret Beach and Industry. Mustique has signal around Britannia Bay, while Canouan, Mayreau and Union get 3G to 4G near the main settlements and airstrips. The uninhabited Tobago Cays have no tower of their own, only patchy signal from neighbouring islands.

Right after you buy, you will get a confirmation email with your eSIM details, usually within minutes. Install it before you fly by scanning the QR code provided, which adds the eSIM as a new line on your phone. Activation is automatic: the eSIM activates on arrival in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, so you land with a working line and can skip in-terminal SIM registration before any small-plane hop or ferry out to the Grenadines.

Most modern smartphones are fully compatible with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so do check our detailed compatibility list before you buy. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. On an iPhone, look under Settings, General, About for an EID number; on Android, check the network or SIM settings for an eSIM or add-eSIM option. If you see those, you are good to go.

It depends on your trip. A long weekend on Bequia suits 1 to 2 GB, and a one-week St Vincent and Bequia combination is comfortable on about 3 GB. A one-week bareboat or crewed charter down the Grenadines needs 3 to 5 GB, since you are on the water much of the time. Two weeks taking in St Vincent, Bequia, Mustique or Canouan and Union suits 5 to 10 GB, and a month working remotely from a Bequia villa is better on 10 to 20 GB.

Yes, tethering and hotspot are supported, so you can share your connection with a laptop or a travel companion's phone. That is handy from a Bequia villa, where Wi-Fi on the smaller islands is not always reliable. Just remember that hotspot use draws on the same data allowance, so a video call or some remote work will get through your plan faster than browsing on a single phone would.

These are data-only plans, so they do not come with a local phone number for traditional calls or SMS. In practice that is no obstacle here, as captains, villa managers and dive shops all communicate over WhatsApp, and you will often get your Tobago Cays pickup time that way. Use apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime over the data connection. Your eSIM is a separate digital line, so your physical home SIM and number can stay in the phone.

Usually, yes. Home-carrier roaming for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines typically runs around 10 to 15 US dollars a day, and a Blikst plan sized to your trip comes in well under that. Digicel and Flow do sell local SIMs at Argyle International and in Kingstown, but the registration hassle after a long flight is not most travellers' idea of a good start. With Blikst you simply land with a working line.
