The Blikst Saint-Martin French eSIM runs on TelCell, the operator covering the French collectivity. You get 4G speeds across the French side, which is plenty for maps, WhatsApp, ferry bookings and photo uploads. Do keep in mind this plan covers the French side only, so if you cross to the Dutch side of the island your phone will start hunting for Dutch networks instead.
TelCell gives you solid 4G across the French collectivity: Marigot, Grand Case and the northern beaches at Orient Bay, Anse Marcel and Happy Bay. Terres Basses and the western peninsula are well covered too, and there's signal reaching the Pic Paradis high point from surrounding masts, though trail dips can drop you to 3G. Coverage stops at the Dutch border, so Philipsburg, Simpson Bay and Maho Beach are not included.
Right after purchase you'll get a confirmation email with your eSIM details, then you scan the QR code to install it. Do this at home on Wi-Fi before you fly. Activation is automatic and your line settles onto TelCell once you're on the French side. Most people land at Princess Juliana (SXM) on the Dutch side, so expect a brief moment where your phone pings Dutch networks before you cross over.
Most modern smartphones work fully with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so it's worth checking our detailed compatibility list to be sure. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. On an iPhone you can confirm eSIM support under Settings, General, About by looking for an EID number; on Android it's in the network or SIM settings. If in doubt, check before you travel.
It depends on your trip. A four or five-day beach stay where you're mostly on resort Wi-Fi is easy on 1 to 2 GB. A week touring the island with the French side as your base, doing day trips across, wants 3 to 5 GB for the French portion. Two weeks with charter-boat hops to Saint-Barth and Anguilla plus daily photo uploads pushes you to 10 GB. Working remotely from a villa? Size up to 20 GB, as Terres Basses villa Wi-Fi is variable.
Yes, tethering and hotspot are supported, so you can share your TelCell connection with a laptop or tablet. This is genuinely handy if you're working from a villa in the Terres Basses, where the local Wi-Fi can be patchy. Just remember the hotspot only works while you're connected on the French side, so if you cross to the Dutch side your shared signal will drop along with your own.
This is a data plan, so it doesn't come with a local phone number for traditional calls or SMS. In practice that's rarely an issue here, as boat charters from Marigot, beach club reservations at Orient Bay and chef bookings nearly all run over WhatsApp. You can call and message over the internet using apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime, and because the eSIM is a separate digital line, your home SIM and number can stay in the phone.
For most travellers, yes. US and UK visitors usually face around 10 to 12 dollars per day in roaming, if their plan covers Saint-Martin at all, and Blikst on TelCell comes in well below that. One thing worth checking first: French metropolitan carriers like Orange, Free and SFR often include Saint-Martin in domestic allowances, so you may not need anything extra. EU roam-like-home plans typically do not cover it the same way.
