I used to have 3 mobile but the internet connection was not the best, that’s why I started to use Blikst and I find it very useful
The Blikst New Zealand eSIM runs on One NZ's network (the rebranded Vodafone NZ), which has one of the country's two largest coverage footprints alongside Spark. You get 4G and 5G speeds, with full LTE across Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown, and 5G in the centres of those cities plus Hamilton, Tauranga and Dunedin. Strong 4G covers the suburbs and the main state highways linking them.
One NZ covers Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga, Queenstown and Dunedin well, plus consistent 4G along almost all of State Highway 1 and the Thermal Explorer route through Rotorua and Taupo. Be honest with your expectations in the wild bits: Milford Sound Road loses signal through the Homer Tunnel, the Hooker Valley track past Aoraki/Mount Cook drops out, the West Coast south of Haast has long gaps, and Doubtful Sound is effectively offline.
Right after purchase you'll get a confirmation email with your eSIM details, so delivery takes minutes. Install the profile at home on Wi-Fi by scanning the QR code provided. Activation is automatic: simply land at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch or Queenstown, switch airplane mode off, and One NZ picks up your eSIM straight away for immediate connectivity. There's no need to queue for a SIM at the airport when you arrive.
Most modern smartphones are fully compatible with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so check our detailed compatibility list to confirm your device works. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. On an iPhone you can check eSIM support under Settings, General, About and look for an EID number; on Android, look in your network or SIM settings. If both show eSIM support, you're good to install before you fly.
It depends on your trip. A five-day Auckland and Queenstown visit is comfortable on 3 to 5 GB. A two-week North and South Island loop suits around 10 GB. A three-week self-drive grand tour with heavy map use is better on 20 GB. Working-holiday visa holders or remote workers staying a month should plan on 20 GB minimum, or 50 GB if you're tethering a laptop. Download offline maps for the West Coast and Southland to save data.
Yes, tethering and hotspot are supported, which is genuinely useful here. If you're hiring a campervan from Jucy, Maui, Britz or Spaceships, the eSIM doubles as your backup for when the campsite Wi-Fi is down, which it often is. It's also handy for sharing data with travelling companions or working from a laptop on the road. Just remember a hotspot drains data faster, so size your plan accordingly if you tether often.
This is a data plan, so it doesn't come with a local New Zealand phone number for traditional calls and texts. Instead you call and message over the internet using apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, Messenger or Zoom, which work fine on 4G and 5G. Because the eSIM is a separate digital line, you can leave your physical home SIM in the phone to keep your usual number active for important texts while you travel.
For most travellers, yes. US carriers roaming in New Zealand typically run $10 to $12 a day, so a two-week self-drive trip is easily $140 in roaming fees alone. You can buy One NZ or Spark prepaid tourist SIMs at Auckland or Christchurch airports for NZD 29 to 49, which is a fine option if you're happy queuing. A Blikst eSIM installs before you fly and activates on landing, so you skip the airport SIM queue entirely.
