I used to have 3 mobile but the internet connection was not the best, that’s why I started to use Blikst and I find it very useful
The Blikst Madagascar eSIM runs on Airtel Madagascar, one of the country's three main mobile carriers. You get 3G and 4G speeds, with reliable 4G in towns and along the main routes and 3G filling the gaps in between. That mix is plenty for what travellers actually rely on here: live maps, WhatsApp guide and driver confirmations, and checking domestic flight changes on the move.
Airtel covers Antananarivo, Antsirabe, Fianarantsoa and the RN7 spine between them with 4G in towns and 3G between. Coastal cities like Tamatave, Mahajanga, Toliara and Nosy Be's Hell-Ville get 4G in the centre, 3G on the outskirts, and Nosy Be's main towns have full 4G. Be honest with yourself about the parks: Andasibe village and entrance have 3G, but deep in the rainforest, and on long hikes around Ranomafana, Isalo and the Tsingy, treat it as offline.
Right after purchase you'll get a confirmation email with your eSIM details, so delivery takes minutes. Install it at home on stable Wi-Fi by scanning the QR code provided. Activation is automatic on arrival: when you land at Ivato (TNR) in Antananarivo, turn airplane mode off and the Blikst line registers on Airtel automatically. The same applies if you fly domestic into Nosy Be, Diego Suarez or Toliara. Remember to turn off data roaming on your home line.
Most modern smartphones work fully with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so check our detailed compatibility list to confirm your device. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. To check eSIM support, on iPhone go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID number; on Android look under your mobile network or SIM settings. If both are present, you're good to install the QR code before you travel.
It depends on your route. A one-week trip focused on Tana plus Andasibe and one side-destination like Nosy Be or Ifaty sits comfortably on 3 GB, since lodges have Wi-Fi for the big uploads. The classic two-week RN7 run through Antsirabe, Fianarantsoa, Ranomafana, Isalo and Tulear, with daily navigation and WhatsApp coordination, needs more like 5 to 10 GB. Three-week trips adding the Tsingy or Masoala suit 10 GB, knowing some will sit unused on offline park days.
Yes, tethering and hotspot are supported, so you can share the connection with a laptop, tablet or a travel companion's phone. Bear in mind the network itself is the limit, not the eSIM: you're on 3G and 4G, signal holds along main routes and fades on the branches to parks and beaches, and don't expect to stream HD from a tented camp. For coordination, maps and messaging it does exactly what physics allows.
This is a data-only plan, so it doesn't come with a local phone number for traditional calls or SMS. In practice that's no obstacle in Madagascar, where lodge bookings, guide confirmations and driver check-ins all run over WhatsApp anyway. You can call and message over the internet using apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime. Because the eSIM is a separate digital line, you can leave your physical home SIM and number in the phone to receive important texts.
For most travellers, yes. Many foreign carriers don't cover Madagascar at all or charge aggressive roaming rates, and a Blikst eSIM side-steps that entirely. Local physical SIMs from Airtel, Orange or Telma are sold in Antananarivo but need passport registration and a queue, which is fine if you have a day in the capital but awkward if you're connecting straight onto a domestic flight to Nosy Be or Morondava. The eSIM is installed and ready before you land.
