I used to have 3 mobile but the internet connection was not the best, that’s why I started to use Blikst and I find it very useful
The Blikst Hong Kong eSIM runs on Hutchison / 3, one of the three main carriers in the Special Administrative Region. You get both 4G and 5G speeds, with 5G across Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, Causeway Bay and the Airport Express corridor, and solid 4G covering Lantau and the popular routes to Ngong Ping 360 and Tai O. You're online from the moment you step off the Airport Express at Central.
Coverage spans Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories and most outlying islands, with 5G in the central districts and the Airport Express corridor. The MTR is fully covered underground, with only brief tunnel dips. Be honest about the hills, though: hiking trails on Lantau Peak, Dragon's Back and the MacLehose Trail get patchy coverage in valleys and behind ridges, so expect 3G fallback or short dead zones. The plan does not cover mainland China.
Right after purchase you'll get a confirmation email with your eSIM details and a QR code. Install the profile over home Wi-Fi before you fly, since the QR scan needs internet to complete. Activation is automatic: when your flight lands at HKG and you switch off airplane mode, the Blikst line registers on 3 Hong Kong on its own. Toggle data roaming off on your home line so it doesn't quietly connect in the background.
Most modern smartphones work fully with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so check our detailed compatibility list to confirm your device. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. On an iPhone you can check eSIM support under Settings, General, About, where you'll see an EID number; on Android, look in your network or SIM settings. If both show eSIM support, you're good to go.
It depends on your trip. A long weekend covering Central, Kowloon and a Lantau day trip runs comfortably on 3 GB. A full week including Lamma Island and evening harbour cruises fits 5 to 10 GB. Business travellers hot-spotting a laptop for a week should go for 20 GB, and a 36-hour layover needs only about 1 GB for maps and messaging. Note that Macau is separate, so pick up a Macau or regional Asia plan for that.
Yes, tethering and hotspot use are supported, which is handy for working from a laptop or sharing with a travelling companion. On the unlimited Hong Kong plans you get 3 GB of high-speed data per day; after that, data continues at 128 Kbps with unlimited access. Your 3 GB high-speed allowance resets daily at midnight, so heavy hotspot days simply pick back up the next morning.
These are data-only plans, so they don't include a local phone number for traditional calls or SMS. In practice that's rarely a problem in Hong Kong, where WhatsApp is the default messaging app and hotels, tour operators and small restaurants will contact you there. You can call and message over the internet using apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime. Because the eSIM is a separate digital line, your physical home SIM and number can stay in the phone.
Usually, yes. US and Canadian carriers typically charge around 10 to 12 dollars per day for Hong Kong roaming, while even a short 7-day Blikst plan costs less than two days of that. Hong Kong airport does have prepaid SIM kiosks in arrivals, and they aren't expensive by global standards, but you're queuing after a long-haul flight to swap a physical SIM. A Blikst eSIM is installed before you fly and activates when you land.
