I used to have 3 mobile but the internet connection was not the best, that’s why I started to use Blikst and I find it very useful
The Blikst BES eSIM runs on Digicel's network across all three Dutch Caribbean islands. You get 3G and 4G speeds, which is plenty for messaging, maps, weather and dive apps, and the occasional video call home. One QR code puts you on Digicel directly, so there is no need to hunt down a local shop or register a prepaid SIM in person when you arrive.
All three islands are covered. Bonaire is strongest, with 4G across Kralendijk, the southern salt flats, the main road into Washington-Slagbaai National Park, and the full dive coastlines. Saba has solid 4G in Windwardside, St. John's and The Bottom, but expect weaker signal on the Mount Scenery hike and deeper dive sites like Tent Reef. On Statia, Oranjestad and main roads are covered, while the Quill crater rim is valley-dependent.
Right after purchase you receive a confirmation email with your eSIM details, then you scan the QR code to install it. Do this at home on Wi-Fi before you fly, because the BON, EUX and SAB airports all have very limited Wi-Fi. The eSIM activates automatically the moment you land on a BES island and switch off airplane mode, registering on Digicel with no further setup needed.
Most modern smartphones work fully with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so check our detailed compatibility list to confirm your device. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. On an iPhone you can check eSIM support under Settings, General, About and look for the EID number; on Android you will find it in the network settings. If both are present, you are good to go.
It depends on your trip. A one-week dedicated dive trip to Bonaire works on 3 to 5 GB if you use hotel Wi-Fi at night. A week split between Saba and Statia sits around 3 GB, thanks to small islands and plenty of offline trail time. Two weeks rotating all three fits 5 to 10 GB. Three-week dive-centric stays should budget 10 GB or more, and a month of remote work with regular video calls pushes towards 20 GB.
Yes, tethering and hotspot are supported, so you can share your connection with a laptop or a travel companion's phone. It is handy for logging dives, checking Windy or Navionics for boat days, or joining a video call from your guesthouse. Just remember that signal is built around the islands' towns and coastlines, so coverage on the Mount Scenery hike, the Quill crater rim, or well offshore can drop regardless of how you connect.
This is a data plan, so it does not include a local phone number for traditional calls or SMS. In practice that is no problem here, since dive shops, boat operators and guesthouses across all three islands coordinate over WhatsApp, including voice notes. You can call and message freely using apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime over the data. Your physical home SIM stays in the phone as a separate line, so your usual number remains reachable.
Usually, yes. Because the BES islands sit outside the EU roaming zone despite being Dutch, EU travellers are often caught out by rest-of-world roaming rates of around 10 to 15 euros per day, and US carriers charge similarly. A Blikst plan runs well below that across any trip length. Local Digicel prepaid SIMs exist but mean visiting a shop and registering, whereas the eSIM lands on Digicel directly.
