The Blikst Belarus eSIM runs on A1 Belarus, the operator formerly known as Velcom, which is one of the country's main mobile networks. You get 3G and 4G speeds, which is plenty for maps, ride-hailing, messaging and translation while you're out and about. There's no 5G on this plan, but 4G across the cities is reliable for everyday travel use.
Coverage is strong across the main cities: Minsk, Brest, Grodno, Gomel, Vitebsk and Mogilev all have solid 4G, and the M1 highway from Brest through Minsk to the Russian border holds signal end to end. Inter-city trains between Minsk, Brest and Orsha stay connected most of the way. Be aware that deeper parts of the Belovezhskaya Pushcha forest near the Polish border, and the marshland in Polesia between settlements, can drop to patchy signal.
Right after you buy, you'll get a confirmation email with your eSIM details and a QR code. Install the profile on home Wi-Fi before you fly, since that's easier than relying on airport Wi-Fi. Activation is automatic: when you land at Minsk National Airport and switch off airplane mode, the A1 Belarus line registers itself. Arriving overland by train from Vilnius, Warsaw or Moscow, it activates within about 5 to 10 minutes of the border crossing.
Most modern smartphones work fully with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so it's worth checking our detailed compatibility list to confirm your handset. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. To check eSIM support, look on an iPhone under Settings, General, About for an EID number, or in your Android network settings. If it's there, you're almost certainly good to go.
It depends on your trip. A business week in Minsk with hotel Wi-Fi at night runs comfortably on 3 to 5 GB, and a one-week loop taking in Minsk, Brest and the Mir-Nesvizh castle area also fits into around 5 GB. Two weeks with deeper regional travel to Grodno, Vitebsk and Polesia sits around 10 GB. Longer stays, especially with video calls and heavy translation app use, are better on 20 GB or more.
Yes, tethering and hotspot use are supported on this plan, so you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or a travelling companion's phone. That's handy for getting work done from a cafe in Minsk or keeping everyone online on the train between cities. Just remember that hotspot use draws down your data allowance faster than browsing on the phone alone, so pick a plan size that accounts for it.
This is a data-only plan, so it doesn't come with a local Belarusian phone number for traditional calls and texts. In practice that's no problem, because Telegram is the dominant messaging app in Belarus and you'll use it for tour guides, rental hosts and business contacts over the internet. WhatsApp and FaceTime work the same way. Since the eSIM is a separate digital line, your physical home SIM and number can stay in the phone.
Usually, yes. Belarus sits outside the EU roaming zone, so "roam like home" doesn't apply even from within the EU, and most Western carriers treat it as premium roaming at around $12 to $15 a day where it's supported at all. Some US carriers don't support Belarus roaming on standard plans. Local A1 or MTS SIMs require a passport and an in-person shop visit with sometimes lengthy registration, which a Blikst plan skips entirely.
