The Blikst Bahrain eSIM runs on STC Bahrain, one of the country's main mobile operators. You get 4G and 5G speeds, with 5G blanketing central Manama, the Diplomatic Area, Seef, Juffair and the Bahrain International Circuit at Sakhir on race weekends. Across the rest of the main island and Muharraq, 4G is the default, so you're well covered wherever your trip takes you.
Coverage spans Manama, Riffa, Hamad Town, Isa Town and both sides of the Muharraq causeway. 5G reaches central Manama, the Diplomatic Area, Seef, Juffair and the Sakhir circuit; 4G covers the rest of the main island. The King Fahd Causeway is covered on the Bahraini side up to the midpoint island, but the plan does not work in Saudi Arabia. The Hawar Islands and smaller southern islets are thinner, expect 4G at best.
Right after purchase you'll get a confirmation email with your eSIM details, then you scan the QR code provided to install it. Set it up over Wi-Fi before you fly, as that's faster than relying on airport Wi-Fi. Activation is automatic: switch off airplane mode when you land and the STC Bahrain line registers itself. If you cross in from Saudi via the King Fahd Causeway, it activates once you clear passport control at Bahraini immigration.
Most modern smartphones work with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so check our detailed compatibility list to confirm your device. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. On iPhone you can check eSIM support under Settings, General, About and look for an EID number; on Android it's in the network or SIM settings. If you see an EID, you're almost certainly good to go.
It depends on the trip. A 2 to 3 day Formula 1 weekend or business stop is fine on 1 to 3 GB. A full week mixing Manama nightlife, Muharraq heritage and Tree of Life day trips suits around 5 GB. Two-week family visits or longer contract work are better on 10 GB. Remote workers spending a month in Juffair or Seef co-working spaces should budget 20 GB or more, given constant video calls.
Yes, tethering and hotspot use are supported, so you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or a travelling companion's phone. That's handy on STC's 5G in Seef or Juffair co-working spaces, or for getting a second device online during an F1 weekend. Just remember hotspot use draws on the same data allowance, so heavier sharing like video calls will get through your plan more quickly.
These are data plans, so calls and messages go over the internet using apps like WhatsApp, Botim or FaceTime. Helpfully, Bahrain does not block VoIP the way the UAE does, so WhatsApp and FaceTime calls work normally without a VPN. Because the eSIM is a separate digital line, you can leave your physical home SIM in the phone to keep your usual number for important texts and calls.
Usually, yes. Most US carriers treat Bahrain as international, with Verizon TravelPass and AT&T International Day Pass both running around $10 to $12 a day, so an F1 weekend or business stop can clear $30 to $50 before you leave the airport. A Blikst plan on STC's 5G costs a fraction of that, and it skips the Batelco, STC or Zain storefront visit with passport photocopies that local SIMs demand.
