Description

Bahrain is a 33-island archipelago connected by causeways and bridges, with Manama as the business hub, Muharraq as the old-quarter heart, and the King Fahd Causeway running west into Saudi Arabia. It's one of the most densely networked countries in the Gulf — and one where roaming bills from US and European carriers still land in the $10–$15 per day range. A Blikst Bahrain eSIM runs on STC Bahrain with 4G / 5G coverage across Manama, Riffa, Hamad Town, Isa Town, and both sides of the Muharraq causeway.

Where STC Bahrain's network runs well

5G blankets central Manama, the Diplomatic Area, Seef, Juffair, and the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir on race weekends. 4G is the default across the rest of the main island and Muharraq. The King Fahd Causeway to Saudi Arabia is covered on the Bahraini side and into the midpoint island, but your eSIM does not work in Saudi Arabia — Saudi is a separate plan. Hawar Islands and the smaller southern islets have thinner coverage and expect 4G at best.

What it saves you vs. roaming

Most US carriers treat Bahrain as international — Verizon TravelPass and AT&T International Day Pass both run around $10–$12 per day. A weekend trip for a Formula 1 race or a business stop already clears $30–$50 in roaming before you've left the airport lounge. A Blikst plan on STC's 5G network runs a fraction of that and doesn't require the Batelco, STC, or Zain storefront visit with passport photocopies that local SIMs demand.

Arriving at BAH

Install the eSIM over Wi-Fi before you fly. Bahrain International Airport (BAH) on Muharraq is modern and has reasonable Wi-Fi, but doing the eSIM setup at home is still faster. When you land and switch off airplane mode, the STC Bahrain line registers automatically. If you're crossing in from Saudi via the King Fahd Causeway, the plan activates at the Bahraini immigration checkpoint once you clear passport control.

What you'll actually use data for here

  • Careem and Uber: Both operate across Bahrain. Careem is the regional default and often has better supply outside central Manama. Both use GPS heavily.
  • Benefit Pay and BenefitPay: Bahrain's domestic payment app is widespread at restaurants and small shops. Apple Pay and Google Pay also work at most terminals.
  • WhatsApp and Botim: WhatsApp voice and video calls work normally. Unlike the UAE, Bahrain does not block VoIP, so FaceTime and WhatsApp calls work fine without a VPN.
  • Google Maps: Works well across the island. The Bahrain Financial Harbour and Seef districts have lots of underground parking where GPS drops briefly.
  • Grand Prix app: If you're in for the F1 weekend, the Bahrain International Circuit app handles seat maps, session times, and shuttle schedules.

Causeway, ferries, and transit

If your itinerary crosses the causeway into Saudi or takes the ferry to Qatar or Iran, remember the eSIM is Bahrain-only. Coverage cuts off at the border. Budget airline routes through BAH often have short layovers where the eSIM gives you working data in the terminal for boarding passes and check-in push notifications — even a 2-hour transit benefits.

Plan sizing for Bahrain trips

A 2–3 day F1 weekend or business stop: 1–3 GB is enough. A full week combining Manama nightlife, Muharraq heritage, and Tree of Life day trips: 5 GB. Two-week family visits or longer contract work: 10 GB. Remote workers staying a month in Juffair or Seef co-working spaces should budget 20 GB or more given constant video calls.

Install before you fly, land on 5G, and skip the carrier-storefront detour. You've got a Formula 1 timer or a business meeting to get to — not a queue at Batelco.

eSIM FAQ

The Blikst Bahrain eSIM runs on STC Bahrain, one of the country's main mobile operators. You get 4G and 5G speeds, with 5G blanketing central Manama, the Diplomatic Area, Seef, Juffair and the Bahrain International Circuit at Sakhir on race weekends. Across the rest of the main island and Muharraq, 4G is the default, so you're well covered wherever your trip takes you.

Coverage spans Manama, Riffa, Hamad Town, Isa Town and both sides of the Muharraq causeway. 5G reaches central Manama, the Diplomatic Area, Seef, Juffair and the Sakhir circuit; 4G covers the rest of the main island. The King Fahd Causeway is covered on the Bahraini side up to the midpoint island, but the plan does not work in Saudi Arabia. The Hawar Islands and smaller southern islets are thinner, expect 4G at best.

Right after purchase you'll get a confirmation email with your eSIM details, then you scan the QR code provided to install it. Set it up over Wi-Fi before you fly, as that's faster than relying on airport Wi-Fi. Activation is automatic: switch off airplane mode when you land and the STC Bahrain line registers itself. If you cross in from Saudi via the King Fahd Causeway, it activates once you clear passport control at Bahraini immigration.

Most modern smartphones work with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so check our detailed compatibility list to confirm your device. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. On iPhone you can check eSIM support under Settings, General, About and look for an EID number; on Android it's in the network or SIM settings. If you see an EID, you're almost certainly good to go.

It depends on the trip. A 2 to 3 day Formula 1 weekend or business stop is fine on 1 to 3 GB. A full week mixing Manama nightlife, Muharraq heritage and Tree of Life day trips suits around 5 GB. Two-week family visits or longer contract work are better on 10 GB. Remote workers spending a month in Juffair or Seef co-working spaces should budget 20 GB or more, given constant video calls.

Yes, tethering and hotspot use are supported, so you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or a travelling companion's phone. That's handy on STC's 5G in Seef or Juffair co-working spaces, or for getting a second device online during an F1 weekend. Just remember hotspot use draws on the same data allowance, so heavier sharing like video calls will get through your plan more quickly.

These are data plans, so calls and messages go over the internet using apps like WhatsApp, Botim or FaceTime. Helpfully, Bahrain does not block VoIP the way the UAE does, so WhatsApp and FaceTime calls work normally without a VPN. Because the eSIM is a separate digital line, you can leave your physical home SIM in the phone to keep your usual number for important texts and calls.

Usually, yes. Most US carriers treat Bahrain as international, with Verizon TravelPass and AT&T International Day Pass both running around $10 to $12 a day, so an F1 weekend or business stop can clear $30 to $50 before you leave the airport. A Blikst plan on STC's 5G costs a fraction of that, and it skips the Batelco, STC or Zain storefront visit with passport photocopies that local SIMs demand.
