Lovely support, got an esim for UK. Had no issues.
I used to have 3 mobile but the internet connection was not the best, that’s why I started to use Blikst and I find it very useful
The Blikst Aland Islands eSIM runs on Aalands Mobile, the local operator (Alands Telekommunikation, also branded Alcom). Aland runs its own mobile infrastructure, so you are on the genuine island network rather than a roaming fallback. You get 4G and 5G speeds: 5G in Mariehamn for fast uploads, and solid 4G across the rest of the main island and the populated parts of the archipelago.
Coverage spans Mariehamn, Jomala, Finstrom and the main inhabited islands. Mariehamn has 5G, while 4G covers the rest of the main island (Fasta Aland) including Jomala, Finstrom, Saltvik and the western road network. The inner archipelago (Lemland, Lumparland, Vardo) has consistent 4G in populated pockets. The outer archipelago (Kumlinge, Brando, Kokar, Sottunga, Foglo) is thinner: expect 4G at ferry terminals and village centres, with dead patches in between. If you are kayaking or small-boating, budget for offline time.
Right after purchase you receive a confirmation email with your eSIM details, then you simply scan the QR code provided to install the profile. Do this over your home Wi-Fi before you travel. The eSIM activates automatically on arrival: switch off airplane mode after landing at Mariehamn Airport and the Aalands line registers itself. If you arrive by ferry, it activates once the ship is close enough to Mariehamn, Langnas or Eckero for a tower to pick it up.
Most modern smartphones work fully with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so check our detailed compatibility list to confirm your device. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. On an iPhone you can check eSIM support under Settings, General, About and look for an EID number; on Android it is in the network or SIM settings. If you see an EID, you are almost certainly good to go.
It depends on your trip. A two to three day Mariehamn weekend is comfortable on 1 to 3 GB. A week combining Mariehamn with the main island's beaches, Jan Karlsgarden and Kastelholm Castle suits about 5 GB. Two weeks of archipelago exploration by ferry and bike works on 5 to 10 GB, depending on how much you cache offline in advance. Summer cottage stays with family tethering, or remote workers using the eSIM as backup, are better on 10 to 20 GB.
Yes, tethering and hotspot use are supported, so you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or travelling companions. This is genuinely useful here: summer cottage stays with family tethering tend to need 10 GB or more. Just remember that hotspot use eats data faster, especially for video calls, and that the outer archipelago has patchy signal, so a shared connection only works where an Aalands tower actually reaches.
Blikst plans are data-only, so they do not include a local phone number for traditional calls or texts. In practice that is rarely a limitation: you can call and message over the internet using apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime or iMessage, and Swedish-language SMS contacts such as stuga owners or bike-rental shops are easily reached through messaging apps. Because the eSIM is a separate digital line, your physical home SIM and number can stay in the phone for anything you still need them for.
For most visitors, yes, and it also removes guesswork. Many people arrive by ferry from Stockholm and assume their Swedish plan covers Aland, but Swedish plans often treat it as international or behave oddly, and non-Nordic travellers from the UK, US or Canada hit premium roaming rates either way. A Blikst plan puts you straight onto Aalands Mobile's local network from the moment the ferry docks or the plane lands, with no roaming surprises and no hunting for a telecom storefront.
