I used to have 3 mobile but the internet connection was not the best, that’s why I started to use Blikst and I find it very useful
The Blikst Malta eSIM runs on Vodafone Malta, one of the island's established mobile operators. You get 3G and 4G speeds, which is plenty for live maps, the Tallinja bus app, ride-hailing, messaging and checking the Gozo ferry schedule as you travel. It is enough to keep you connected and navigating comfortably right across Malta, Gozo and Comino throughout your trip.
Coverage spans Malta, Gozo and Comino, including the Three Cities, Mdina, the Blue Grotto area and the ferry corridor up to Mġarr. Valletta, Sliema, St Julian's, Mellieħa and Birgu all have strong 4G, and Gozo's main towns like Victoria, Xlendi and Marsalforn are well covered. Expect thinning along the cliff paths near Dwejra and Ta' Ċenċ, congestion at the Blue Lagoon on peak summer days, and dropouts inside Valletta's bastion walls or the Hypogeum and Casemates.
Right after purchase you receive a confirmation email with your eSIM details, so delivery takes only minutes. Install it at home over stable Wi-Fi by scanning the QR code provided. Activation is automatic: when you land at Luqa (MLA) and turn airplane mode off, the Blikst profile registers on Vodafone Malta within a minute or two. Turn off data roaming on your home line first so it doesn't grab the signal before the eSIM connects.
Most modern smartphones work fully with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so check our detailed compatibility list to confirm your device. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. To check eSIM support, look under Settings, General, About for an EID number on an iPhone, or in your network settings on Android. If you are unsure, the compatibility list is the quickest way to be certain before you travel.
It depends on your trip. A long weekend in Valletta and Sliema is easy on 2 to 3 GB if you are back on hotel Wi-Fi each night. A full week bouncing between Malta, Gozo and a Comino day trip with maps, photos and messaging fits in around 5 GB. Two-week tours of both islands by rental car, plus hotspotting a tablet, want about 10 GB. Digital nomads basing in Sliema or Xlendi for a month should size up to 20 GB or more, especially for video calls.
Yes, tethering and hotspot are supported, so you can share your connection with a laptop or tablet. This is handy on a two-week island tour when you want to hotspot a tablet for notes or work, and it suits digital nomads basing in Sliema or Xlendi who size up their data accordingly. Just keep an eye on your usage, as hotspotting several devices gets through data far faster than a single phone does.
This is a data plan, so it does not include a local Maltese number for traditional calls or texts. In practice that is rarely a problem: you can call and message over the internet using apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime or similar, and in Malta dive schools, boat operators and Airbnb hosts often communicate on WhatsApp anyway. Because the eSIM is a separate digital line, your physical home SIM stays in the phone, so your usual number remains reachable.
It depends where you are travelling from. If you are on a home plan from an EU country, Malta falls under roam-like-home rules, so you may not need a travel eSIM at all, check your carrier first. UK travellers often face roaming fees of around £6 to £7 per day, and a Blikst plan comes in well under that for a week. US and non-EU visitors save the most. Physical SIMs from Vodafone, GO or Melita are sold at the airport but need ID registration and a counter stop after a long flight.
