Description

Kuwait is one of the GCC's smallest countries and one of the most densely connected — fibre backhaul to nearly every neighbourhood in Kuwait City, 5G across the urban core, and almost no stretch of paved road without signal. A Blikst Kuwait eSIM rides on the Viva network (branded STC Kuwait since 2021, part of the Saudi Telecom Company group) with 4G and 5G across the country. Install the profile before you fly, land at Kuwait International (KWI), and skip the mandatory biometric registration that comes with buying a physical SIM at an airport kiosk.

Where Viva's network works

Kuwait City, Hawally, Salmiya, Fahaheel, Jahra, and Ahmadi all get full 5G. The coastal corniche from Shuwaikh to Fintas is blanket 5G. Failaka Island and Bubiyan have patchy 4G — adequate for messaging, not streaming. The desert stretch north toward the Iraqi border and south toward the Saudi border at Al Nuwaiseeb drops to 4G but stays usable. Inside most malls — Avenues, 360 Mall, Marina — networks include in-building 5G repeaters, so the signal holds up in the basement food courts too.

Cost vs. local SIM registration

Kuwait requires fingerprint biometric registration for any physical SIM purchase, tied to your passport and civil ID. Short-term tourist SIMs exist but the queue at the Viva/Zain/Ooredoo booths in KWI's arrivals hall is slow after a late flight. A Blikst eSIM skips the biometric step entirely and activates the moment you clear the runway. Against US or EU roaming tariffs of $10–$15 per day, a 15-day 5 GB plan undercuts two days of roaming by a comfortable margin.

Arrival at Kuwait International

Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi. KWI Terminal 1 and Terminal 4 (Jazeera) both have free airport Wi-Fi, but it requires a local SMS code to access — circular problem if your primary line is off. Having the Blikst line live on arrival means ride-hailing (Careem, Uber, Talabat for food), bank 2FA prompts, and WhatsApp messages to your host or hotel all work from the baggage carousel. Most tourists stay in hotels along the Gulf Road; the 25-minute drive from KWI to Kuwait City is fully covered.

Apps that eat data here

  • Careem and Uber: Both operate in Kuwait. Careem is more widely used locally and offers bike-delivery and bill-pay features tourists rarely need. Uber is the familiar fallback.
  • Talabat: Kuwait invented the regional food-delivery app. Hotel dining is expensive; Talabat to your hotel lobby from a machboos place in Salmiya is cheaper and often better.
  • WhatsApp calls: Kuwait previously blocked VoIP on several apps; as of the current licensing framework, WhatsApp voice and video generally work on mobile data. This can change — don't plan your business trip around it.
  • Google Maps: Reliable across the country. The Sixth Ring Road and the 80 highway toward Iraq are well-mapped; some interior diwaniya addresses are block-referenced rather than street-numbered.

Plan sizing

A three-day business trip to Kuwait City with hotel Wi-Fi works on 1–3 GB. A one-week leisure trip covering Kuwait City, Failaka, and the southern beaches fits 5–10 GB. A two-week stay or longer layover with daily Careem rides, Talabat orders, and heavy WhatsApp use lands around 10–15 GB. Remote workers in serviced apartments for a month should pick 20 GB or higher — 5G makes it easy to burn data without realising.

Install the eSIM before you fly, land at Kuwait International with data already live, and get straight to the first majboos without filling in a biometric form. One QR code, a Viva/STC line, and a working 5G signal from the terminal to the corniche.

eSIM FAQ

An eSIM, or Embedded SIM, is a digital SIM that allows you to activate a mobile plan without using a physical SIM card. It is built directly into your smartphone, smartwatch, or tablet and provides the same functionality as a physical SIM. With eSIM, switching between carriers or adding a secondary number becomes seamless and hassle-free.

Getting an eSIM is simple! Check if your device supports eSIM technology. Then, purchase an eSIM plan from your preferred carrier or from our website. After purchase, you’ll receive a QR code or activation details to set up the eSIM on your device in minutes.

Most modern smartphones, including the latest iPhones, Samsung Galaxy models, and Google Pixel devices, are eSIM compatible. Check your device settings under “Cellular” or “Mobile Data” to see if eSIM options are available. Alternatively, refer to your device’s specifications or contact us for guidance.

The number of eSIMs you can have depends on your device. For example, most iPhones allow multiple eSIM profiles but only one active eSIM at a time. Some Android devices support dual-active eSIMs, giving you more flexibility. Check your device’s specifications for details.

Activating an eSIM involves a few easy steps: 1. Purchase an eSIM plan from our website or your carrier. 2. Scan the provided QR code using your device’s camera or enter the activation code manually. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to add the eSIM profile to your device. Once activated, your eSIM is ready to use!

To activate an eSIM on iPhone: 1. Go to Settings > Cellular > Add Cellular Plan. 2. Scan the QR code from your eSIM provider or enter the activation details manually. 3. Choose your preferred settings for data, calls, and messaging, then tap Done. Your eSIM is now set up and ready to use.

Yes, eSIM offers several advantages over traditional SIM cards: Convenience: No physical SIM card required. Flexibility: Easily switch between carriers or plans. Space-saving: Frees up internal space in devices for additional features. Eco-friendly: Reduces plastic waste. Upgrade to eSIM and experience seamless connectivity like never before.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to transfer your eSIM using the same QR code, as QR codes can only be scanned once for security reasons. If you wish to use your eSIM on a new device, you will need to contact your carrier to request a new activation code or QR code. Once issued, you can set up the eSIM on your new device following the standard activation process.
