Jersey is a Crown Dependency, not part of the UK, and that distinction matters the moment you try to use data there. EU "roam like home" allowances from French or other European carriers do not apply, and UK domestic eSIMs explicitly exclude Jersey — so a data plan that cost you nothing in London suddenly gets treated as international roaming the moment you land at Jersey Airport (JER). Where JT's network covers

St. Helier, St. Brelade, St. Clement, Gorey, and St. Aubin all carry 4G. The A1 and A2 coast roads loop the island cleanly with consistent coverage. The interior lanes around St. Ouen, St. Peter, and Trinity have good 4G on the main routes and patchier signal on the farm tracks. The north coast cliff paths between Plémont, Grève de Lecq, and Bouley Bay have 4G most of the way — useful if you're walking the Jersey Coastal Walk. The islets off the coast (Les Écréhous, Les Minquiers) are outside the main coverage; don't plan on streaming during a low-tide kayak crossing.

Cost vs. UK roaming and French SIMs

• Tide times: Jersey has some of the largest tidal ranges in the world (up to 12 metres). Apps like Tides Near Me or the local Jersey Tide Times page are genuinely useful for beach walks and kayaking.
• Google Maps: Works well across the island. Some historic lane names around the interior parishes are landmark-based — a pinned farm address beats a house name.
• Payments: Card and contactless are accepted almost everywhere. Jersey uses the pound sterling at par with the UK pound, but Jersey-issued notes are legal tender only on the island — spend them before you fly out or keep them as souvenirs.

Plan sizing

A long weekend in St. Helier with hotel Wi-Fi works on 1–3 GB. A week covering the whole island — coast walks, Durrell Wildlife Park, Mont Orgueil, and a day trip to Herm or Sark (separate eSIM may be needed for Guernsey-area islands) — fits 3–5 GB. Two-week family holidays with active beach days and navigation runs 5–10 GB. Business visitors staying a week in St. Helier's finance district with frequent video calls should pick 10 GB or higher.
