I used to have 3 mobile but the internet connection was not the best, that’s why I started to use Blikst and I find it very useful
The Blikst Hungary eSIM runs on the Vodafone Hungary network (now branded One Hungary after 4iG's 2023 acquisition, but still commonly operating on Vodafone infrastructure). You get 4G across the country and 5G in Budapest and the larger regional cities. That covers all the data-hungry essentials in practice, from the BudapestGO transit app to Bolt rides home across the Danube.
Budapest, Debrecen, Szeged, Pecs, Gyor and Miskolc all have consistent 4G, with 5G in the city cores. The M1, M3, M5 and M7 motorways are well covered, and Lake Balaton's northern and southern shores carry 4G at resorts like Siofok, Balatonfured and Tihany. Be aware the Bukk and Matra mountain back roads drop to 3G, the open Hortobagy steppe thins out, and small eastern border villages can dip to 3G briefly.
Right after purchase you receive a confirmation email with your eSIM details, so delivery takes minutes. Install the profile at home over Wi-Fi by scanning the QR code provided, then leave it ready. Activation is automatic: your eSIM activates on arrival in Hungary. Land at Budapest Ferenc Liszt (BUD) or Debrecen (DEB), switch off airplane mode, and the Blikst line registers on Vodafone Hungary by itself, no carrier shop needed.
Most modern smartphones are fully compatible with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so check our detailed compatibility list to confirm your device. The handset must be carrier-unlocked. To check eSIM support yourself, on iPhone go to Settings, General, About and look for an EID number; on Android, look under your network or SIM settings. If your phone shows an EID and is unlocked, you are good to go.
A long weekend in Budapest with hotel Wi-Fi works on 1 to 3 GB. A one-week trip pairing Budapest with Lake Balaton and an Eger or Tokaj day trip fits 3 to 5 GB. Two-week itineraries taking in Budapest, Pecs, Szeged and Debrecen run 5 to 10 GB. Business travellers on daily video calls should pick 10 to 15 GB, and digital nomads staying a month should go for 20 GB or higher.
Yes, tethering and hotspot use are supported, so you can share your connection with a laptop or a travel companion's phone. That is handy for remote work in Budapest's healthy nomad scene, or for getting a tablet online at your Lake Balaton apartment. Keep in mind hotspotting draws data faster, so if you plan to tether for video calls or work sessions, size up to a larger plan accordingly.
This is a data-only plan, so it does not come with a Hungarian phone number for traditional calls or texts. In practice that is rarely a limit: you can call and message over the internet using apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime or Messenger on your data. Because an eSIM is a separate digital line, your physical home SIM can stay in the phone, so you keep your own number reachable for important texts and calls.
It depends where you are travelling from. If you are arriving from another EU country, roam-like-home allowances usually cover Hungary, so check your home plan first before buying anything extra. UK visitors face roughly two to six pounds a day in post-Brexit surcharges with most carriers, and US carriers charge around ten to twelve dollars a day. A Blikst 15-day 5 GB plan undercuts just two days of US roaming easily.
