- Offline maps: Download Google Maps offline tiles for Port-au-Prince, Pétion-Ville, and Cap-Haïtien before you arrive. Street signage in parts of PAP is limited, and landmarks beat street names.
- Language: Haitian Creole is the working language; French is widely understood. Google Translate's Creole pack is serviceable for basic phrases — download offline before landing.
- Safety alerts: Keep your embassy's STEP (US), LOCATE (UK), or equivalent enrollment active. Data keeps the alerts pushing in real time.
