Description

Guadeloupe is technically France — euros, French plates on rental cars, and EU data rules apply for French carriers — but if you're flying in from the US, UK, or Canada, that doesn't help much. A Blikst Guadeloupe eSIM runs on Outremer (Orange Caraïbe's local operator), with 3G and 4G across Grande-Terre, Basse-Terre, and the populated parts of Marie-Galante, Les Saintes, and La Désirade. You'll cover Pointe-à-Pitre, Basse-Terre town, Saint-François, the beach belt of Sainte-Anne, and the rainforest roads up to La Soufrière.

Where Outremer's network reaches

Pointe-à-Pitre, Gosier, Sainte-Anne, Saint-François, and most of the southern Grande-Terre coast have reliable 4G. Basse-Terre's west coast — Deshaies, Pointe-Noire, and the Bouillante dive zone — has good 4G along the main coastal road. The interior of Basse-Terre (the Parc National rainforest, the Route de la Traversée) gets patchy coverage in valleys and near the volcano itself, with 3G fallback in most populated villages. Marie-Galante has solid coverage in Grand-Bourg and Saint-Louis; Les Saintes has 4G in Terre-de-Haut around the main village and beaches, thinner on the hiking trails up Le Chameau.

Cost vs. roaming from home

French and other EU carriers can roam here under Orange's "Europe et DOM" inclusions on many plans — check before you buy. UK carriers post-Brexit charge variable rates for the French Overseas Departments, often higher than mainland France roaming. US and Canadian carriers treat Guadeloupe as international at $10–$12 per day. A Blikst plan removes the guesswork.

Activation when you land

Install the profile over Wi-Fi before you fly. When you land at Pointe-à-Pitre (PTP) and switch off airplane mode, the plan registers on Outremer automatically. If you're arriving by ferry from Martinique, Dominica, or Les Saintes into a smaller port, the same thing happens when the phone first touches a Guadeloupe tower. Keep data roaming off on your home line.

Apps that actually matter here

  • Google Maps and Waze: Guadeloupe drives itself — rental car, Route N1 and N2, the rainforest crossings. Waze handles the traffic around Pointe-à-Pitre during peak hours better than Google.
  • WhatsApp: French Caribbean gîtes, tour guides, and catamaran operators communicate here. French-language messaging is the norm.
  • Karib Horaires / ferry apps: L'Express des Îles and Val'Ferry run the inter-island ferries. Schedule changes are frequent; check the app the day you sail.
  • Météo France Antilles: Hurricane season (June to November) makes this non-optional. Tropical waves, swell forecasts, and volcano updates all live here.
  • Google Translate French offline pack: Most menus and signs are French-only outside the biggest resorts. Camera mode handles the gaps.

Plan sizing for typical trips

A one-week beach trip staying in Sainte-Anne or Saint-François runs on 3–5 GB. A two-week itinerary covering both Grande-Terre and Basse-Terre, with day trips to Marie-Galante and Les Saintes, fits 10 GB. Hikers tackling La Soufrière, the Carbet Falls, and the Chutes du Moreau need roughly the same — offline map downloads save data on trail days. Longer stays in a villa rental should size for 20 GB or more if you're hot-spotting a laptop.

Practical notes

Most Guadeloupe accommodations have Wi-Fi, but coverage in beachfront bungalows and rainforest lodges can be thin — your eSIM fills the gap. Ferries between islands generally don't have Wi-Fi. Install the profile before you fly, pack offline maps of Basse-Terre's interior, and land at Pointe-à-Pitre already connected. The ti' punch at the first beach bar is waiting.

eSIM FAQ

An eSIM, or Embedded SIM, is a digital SIM that allows you to activate a mobile plan without using a physical SIM card. It is built directly into your smartphone, smartwatch, or tablet and provides the same functionality as a physical SIM. With eSIM, switching between carriers or adding a secondary number becomes seamless and hassle-free.

Getting an eSIM is simple! Check if your device supports eSIM technology. Then, purchase an eSIM plan from your preferred carrier or from our website. After purchase, you’ll receive a QR code or activation details to set up the eSIM on your device in minutes.

Most modern smartphones, including the latest iPhones, Samsung Galaxy models, and Google Pixel devices, are eSIM compatible. Check your device settings under “Cellular” or “Mobile Data” to see if eSIM options are available. Alternatively, refer to your device’s specifications or contact us for guidance.

The number of eSIMs you can have depends on your device. For example, most iPhones allow multiple eSIM profiles but only one active eSIM at a time. Some Android devices support dual-active eSIMs, giving you more flexibility. Check your device’s specifications for details.

Activating an eSIM involves a few easy steps: 1. Purchase an eSIM plan from our website or your carrier. 2. Scan the provided QR code using your device’s camera or enter the activation code manually. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to add the eSIM profile to your device. Once activated, your eSIM is ready to use!

To activate an eSIM on iPhone: 1. Go to Settings > Cellular > Add Cellular Plan. 2. Scan the QR code from your eSIM provider or enter the activation details manually. 3. Choose your preferred settings for data, calls, and messaging, then tap Done. Your eSIM is now set up and ready to use.

Yes, eSIM offers several advantages over traditional SIM cards: Convenience: No physical SIM card required. Flexibility: Easily switch between carriers or plans. Space-saving: Frees up internal space in devices for additional features. Eco-friendly: Reduces plastic waste. Upgrade to eSIM and experience seamless connectivity like never before.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to transfer your eSIM using the same QR code, as QR codes can only be scanned once for security reasons. If you wish to use your eSIM on a new device, you will need to contact your carrier to request a new activation code or QR code. Once issued, you can set up the eSIM on your new device following the standard activation process.
