The Blikst Finland eSIM runs on Telia, one of Finland's three main operators alongside Elisa and DNA. You get both 4G and 5G speeds. Helsinki has blanket 5G, while Turku, Tampere, Oulu and the main Inter-City rail corridor all enjoy strong 4G and 5G. Rovaniemi has 5G downtown and 4G across the surrounding resort zones, so you stay well connected from the capital to the Arctic Circle.
Coverage is world-class. You get 4G and 5G across Helsinki, Turku, Tampere, Oulu, Rovaniemi and most of the Arctic Circle tourism zone, and the Helsinki Metro has in-tunnel coverage on modern stretches. Further north, Inari, Saariselka, Ivalo and Kilpisjarvi have solid 4G in villages and on the E75 road. Be honest with yourself about the wilderness though: Lapland's far-off fells, ski tracks and snowmobile routes can drop to 3G or nothing. The Aland Islands may use a different carrier arrangement, so check before heading there.
Right after purchase you receive a confirmation email with your eSIM details, so delivery takes only minutes. Scan the QR code provided to install the profile, ideally over Wi-Fi before you fly. Activation is automatic: when you land in Finland and switch off airplane mode, the plan registers on Telia by itself. Land at Helsinki-Vantaa, Rovaniemi, Oulu or Turku and you will be connected straight away, ready for the airport train into the city.
Most modern smartphones are fully compatible with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so check our detailed compatibility list to confirm your device. Your handset must also be carrier-unlocked. To check eSIM support, look on iPhone under Settings, General, About for an EID number, or in your Android network settings. If you are unsure, that EID line is the quickest tell that your phone can take a digital SIM.
A long weekend in Helsinki runs on 3 GB easily. A one-week Helsinki-and-Lapland trip, flying north to Rovaniemi for a glass igloo and back, fits 5 GB. A classic two-week grand tour taking in Helsinki, Turku, Tampere and Lapland uses around 10 GB. Cross-country ski trips or longer cabin stays should size for 10 to 20 GB, since cabin Wi-Fi can be patchy, and remote workers settling in Helsinki for a month usually want 20 GB or more.
Yes, tethering and hotspot use are supported, so you can share your connection with a laptop or tablet, or with a travelling companion's phone. This is genuinely useful in remote Lapland cabins, where the local Wi-Fi can be an exception to Finland's usually excellent coverage. Just keep an eye on your allowance, as hotspotting a laptop chews through data far faster than browsing on your phone alone.
This is a data plan, so it does not come with a Finnish phone number for traditional calls or texts. In practice that is rarely a problem: you can call and message over the internet using apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime or Telegram wherever you have signal. Because an eSIM is a separate digital line, your physical home SIM can stay in the phone, keeping your usual number active for any essential calls or bank verification texts.
It depends on your home plan. EU travellers with roam-like-home probably already include Finland, so check first. UK post-Brexit plans may charge £2 to £6 per day, and US carriers typically charge $10 to $12 per day, which adds up fast. A Finnish prepaid SIM is easy to grab at R-Kioski and other convenience stores, but a Blikst plan saves that step and means you land already connected to Telia rather than hunting for a kiosk.
