Description

Denmark is one of the most digital countries in Europe — you'll pay by MobilePay at the bakery, tap through Rejsekort on the Copenhagen Metro, and scan a QR code to board a harbour bus. A Blikst Denmark eSIM keeps you online from the moment you land at Copenhagen (CPH), Billund (BLL) or Aalborg (AAL), running on Telia's 4G / 5G network — one of the country's top-tier carriers, with near-universal population coverage and 5G reaching every major city and much of Jutland's motorway network.

Where Telia's network works best

Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg and Esbjerg all have full 5G. The E20 and E45 motorways crossing Zealand, Funen and Jutland hold 4G / 5G the whole way, including the Great Belt Bridge and the Oresund Bridge to Sweden. Rural Bornholm, the dune coast of West Jutland, and smaller Wadden Sea islands like Fano and Romo are covered but may drop to 4G in parts. Train routes — IC3, Lyntog, and the Copenhagen S-train — stay connected almost end-to-end. If you cross into Sweden or Germany from here, this eSIM does not extend; pick up a regional plan if that's the plan.

What this costs vs. roaming

EU travellers with "roam like home" already have Denmark covered on their home plan — you probably don't need an eSIM at all, so check first. For US, UK, and non-EU travellers, home carriers typically charge $10–$12 per day for Denmark roaming. A multi-day Blikst plan sits well below that even for a short stay, and a month-long plan costs less than a week of standard roaming.

Getting connected on arrival

Install the eSIM on home Wi-Fi before you fly — CPH airport Wi-Fi is free but crowded around arrival peaks. When you land and switch off airplane mode, the Telia line registers automatically. Turn off data roaming on your home SIM so it doesn't sneak onto Danish networks in the background. CPH is connected to central Copenhagen in about 14 minutes by Metro M2 or regional train; having data live on the train means you can buy your ticket on the DOT Billetter app before you even reach the platform.

What travellers actually use data for in Denmark

  • DOT / Rejseplanen: The national journey planner. Everything — Metro, S-train, buses, regional trains, Copenhagen harbour buses — runs through it. Tickets are bought in-app.
  • MobilePay: The dominant peer-to-peer payment app, but it requires a Danish bank account, so as a visitor you'll rely on card or Apple Pay / Google Pay instead. Most places accept both.
  • Donkey Republic and Bolt: Bike share in Copenhagen and most larger towns. All GPS-based and data-reliant.
  • Google Maps walking directions: Copenhagen is dense with cycling infrastructure and pedestrian shortcuts that only show up on map apps with live data.
  • Too Good To Go: Invented in Denmark. Half-price end-of-day food from bakeries and restaurants — heavy use among budget travellers and students.

Plan sizing for typical trips

A long weekend in Copenhagen on 2–3 GB is realistic if you're on hotel Wi-Fi at night. A one-week Denmark loop covering Copenhagen, Aarhus, and a Jutland beach stop fits into 5 GB. Two weeks with Bornholm, Skagen, and the Lake District around Silkeborg sits comfortably in 10 GB. Remote workers staying a month should look at 20 GB or higher, especially if you're hot-spotting a laptop in cafes rather than using the (generally excellent) free Wi-Fi at libraries.

Install before you fly, land in CPH already connected, and buy your Metro ticket on the train into town. No SIM kiosk, no roaming bill.

eSIM FAQ

An eSIM, or Embedded SIM, is a digital SIM that allows you to activate a mobile plan without using a physical SIM card. It is built directly into your smartphone, smartwatch, or tablet and provides the same functionality as a physical SIM. With eSIM, switching between carriers or adding a secondary number becomes seamless and hassle-free.

Getting an eSIM is simple! Check if your device supports eSIM technology. Then, purchase an eSIM plan from your preferred carrier or from our website. After purchase, you’ll receive a QR code or activation details to set up the eSIM on your device in minutes.

Most modern smartphones, including the latest iPhones, Samsung Galaxy models, and Google Pixel devices, are eSIM compatible. Check your device settings under “Cellular” or “Mobile Data” to see if eSIM options are available. Alternatively, refer to your device’s specifications or contact us for guidance.

The number of eSIMs you can have depends on your device. For example, most iPhones allow multiple eSIM profiles but only one active eSIM at a time. Some Android devices support dual-active eSIMs, giving you more flexibility. Check your device’s specifications for details.

Activating an eSIM involves a few easy steps: 1. Purchase an eSIM plan from our website or your carrier. 2. Scan the provided QR code using your device’s camera or enter the activation code manually. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to add the eSIM profile to your device. Once activated, your eSIM is ready to use!

To activate an eSIM on iPhone: 1. Go to Settings > Cellular > Add Cellular Plan. 2. Scan the QR code from your eSIM provider or enter the activation details manually. 3. Choose your preferred settings for data, calls, and messaging, then tap Done. Your eSIM is now set up and ready to use.

Yes, eSIM offers several advantages over traditional SIM cards: Convenience: No physical SIM card required. Flexibility: Easily switch between carriers or plans. Space-saving: Frees up internal space in devices for additional features. Eco-friendly: Reduces plastic waste. Upgrade to eSIM and experience seamless connectivity like never before.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to transfer your eSIM using the same QR code, as QR codes can only be scanned once for security reasons. If you wish to use your eSIM on a new device, you will need to contact your carrier to request a new activation code or QR code. Once issued, you can set up the eSIM on your new device following the standard activation process.
