The Blikst Nauru eSIM runs on Digicel Nauru's network, which is the main mobile operator on the island. You get 3G and 4G speeds, with 4G being the norm across the island and a 3G fallback that happens occasionally. Indoor signal can be weaker in reinforced buildings, but for everyday use along the ring road you'll be on 4G most of the time.
Coverage is effectively the whole island. Nauru is just 21 square kilometres, so nowhere is more than a couple of kilometres from a signal. Digicel towers cover Yaren, Aiwo, the Menen Hotel area, Anibare Bay on the east coast, and the central plateau around Topside and Buada Lagoon. Anibare Bay and Buada Lagoon both have signal throughout. The phosphate mining pinnacles in the interior have signal too, though it's patchy there.
Right after you buy, you'll get a confirmation email with your eSIM details, so delivery takes just minutes. Install the profile at home on Wi-Fi by scanning the QR code, since airport Wi-Fi on Nauru is minimal. Activation is automatic: when you land at Nauru International, switch airplane mode off and Digicel registers your eSIM. It activates on arrival, so you're connected the moment you step off the plane.
Most modern smartphones work fully with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so it's worth checking our detailed compatibility list to confirm your device. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. On an iPhone you can check eSIM support under Settings, General, About and look for an EID number; on Android it's in your network settings. If both are present, you're good to go.
It depends on how long you're staying. A 2-day business stopover or transit on the Brisbane or Nadi rotation needs only 500 MB to 1 GB. A week-long visit, which counts as a long stay for Nauru, suits about 2 to 3 GB. Consultants, diplomats or aid workers staying two weeks or more should plan on around 5 GB. Most usage here is Messenger, WhatsApp calls home and maps around the ring road, so data needs stay modest.
Yes, tethering and hotspot use are supported, so you can share your connection with a laptop or a travelling companion's device. On a small island where the Menen Hotel Wi-Fi can drop during the occasional power outage, a hotspot is a handy backup for staying online. Just keep an eye on your data, as sharing across several devices uses it up faster than a single phone would.
Blikst Nauru eSIMs are data-only, so there's no local number for traditional calls or texts. Instead you call and message over the internet using apps. Nauru runs heavily on Facebook and Messenger for local contacts, government officials and businesses, while WhatsApp is handy for calls home. Because the eSIM is a separate digital line, your physical home SIM can stay in the phone, so you keep your usual number for anything that arrives on it.
You can buy a Digicel SIM at the Digicel office in Aiwo or the airport counter, where prices are low and registration is straightforward. The catch is opening hours are limited and the counter at Nauru International isn't always staffed when you land. A Blikst eSIM installs before you fly and works the moment you arrive, so for short business trips, transit or the occasional tourist visit it's the smoother, friction-free option.
