The Blikst Thailand eSIM runs on Advanced Info Service (AIS), the country's largest carrier by coverage and reach, at 4G and 5G speeds. AIS is well established right across Thailand, so you get fast LTE in the cities and 5G in the busier areas, with continuous 4G along the main highway networks linking the major destinations together.
Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui, Pattaya, Hua Hin and the major islands all have 4G and 5G. Being honest about the gaps: Koh Phi Phi, Koh Tao, Koh Lanta and Koh Lipe have solid 4G on the populated beaches but thinner signal at the far tips. Mountain passes toward Doi Inthanon and Pai drop to 3G, and national park interiors like Khao Sok and Khao Yai are patchy away from ranger stations. The deep south (Yala, Narathiwat, Pattani) has coverage but sits under travel advisories.
Right after you buy, you receive a confirmation email with your eSIM details, so delivery takes minutes. Install it before you leave home by scanning the QR code provided, which adds the eSIM as a digital line on your phone. Activation is automatic: the line registers on AIS the moment your phone connects after you land at airports like Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Phuket or Koh Samui, so you walk off the plane with data already live.
Most modern smartphones are fully compatible with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so check our detailed compatibility list to confirm your device works. Your phone must also be carrier-unlocked. To check eSIM support quickly, look on an iPhone under Settings, General, About for an EID number, or check the network settings on Android. If an EID is listed, your handset can run an eSIM.
It depends on your trip. A weekend in Bangkok is comfortable on 2 to 3 GB. A one-week Bangkok and Chiang Mai classic suits about 5 GB. A two-week Bangkok, north and southern island hop is better on 10 GB, and a three-week full-country circuit on around 20 GB. A month of remote work from Chiang Mai or Phuket runs 20 to 50 GB. Maps, Grab and live weather are the main drains as you move between cities and islands.
Yes, tethering and hotspot use are supported, so you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or a travel companion's phone. That is handy for remote work from Chiang Mai or Phuket, or for keeping a second device online during long transfers. Bear in mind that hotspotting uses your data allowance faster, so size your plan with that in mind if several devices will lean on it.
This is a data-only plan, so it does not come with a local Thai phone number for traditional calls or SMS. In practice that is rarely a problem: you can call and message over the internet using apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, LINE or Facebook Messenger, which is how most travellers and operators communicate in Thailand anyway. Because the eSIM is a separate digital line, your physical home SIM and number can stay in the phone for anything that still needs them.
Home-carrier roaming for Thailand is typically around 10 dollars a day, which adds up fast over a trip. Local tourist SIMs from AIS, TrueMove and DTAC are sold at the airports and are aggressively priced, but you queue at a counter for 10 to 20 minutes. The eSIM's main advantage is convenience: load it before you fly, skip the kiosk entirely, and avoid the unofficial "tourist SIM" vendors outside airports that sometimes don't work as advertised.
