The Blikst Spain eSIM runs on Orange Espana, one of the country's top three operators alongside Movistar and Vodafone Espana. You get both 4G and 5G speeds, so you are on a proper nationwide network rather than a patchy reseller line. Expect 5G in the major cities and solid 4G almost everywhere else across the mainland and the islands.
Coverage spans Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Malaga and Bilbao, all with 5G, plus the AVE high-speed rail corridors which hold 4G or 5G almost the full route with brief tunnel dips. The Balearics and Canaries get strong 4G or 5G in the main and tourist areas. Be honest with yourself about rural Extremadura, the deep Pyrenees valleys, Sierra de Gredos, the Picos de Europa and the volcanic interiors of Teide and Timanfaya, where you may drop to 4G or 3G.
Right after you buy, you get a confirmation email with your eSIM details, usually within minutes. Install the profile by scanning the QR code while you are still on Wi-Fi at home before you fly. Activation is automatic on arrival in Spain: land at an airport such as Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Valencia, Seville, Palma, Tenerife or Gran Canaria, switch off airplane mode, and the plan registers on Orange Espana for immediate connectivity.
Most modern smartphones work fully with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so do check our detailed compatibility list to confirm your exact device. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. To check eSIM support, look on an iPhone under Settings, General, About for an EID number, or check your network settings on Android. If you see an EID, you are good to go.
It depends on your trip. A long weekend in Madrid or Barcelona runs comfortably on 3 GB. A one-week trip combining two cities with AVE travel, like Madrid to Seville or Barcelona to Valencia, fits 5 GB. A classic two-week Andalucia loop or a Balearics beach trip with a city stop uses around 10 GB. Camino de Santiago walkers typically use 5 to 10 GB, while digital nomads staying a month should plan for 20 to 50 GB.
Yes, tethering and hotspot are supported, so you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or a travelling companion's phone. That is handy for working from a cafe in Madrid, getting a second device online during an AVE journey, or keeping the family connected on a Balearics beach day. Just remember that hotspot use draws from the same data allowance, so a heavy laptop session will eat through it faster than phone browsing.
This is a data plan, so it gives you mobile internet rather than a Spanish phone number for traditional calls and SMS. In practice that is no problem in Spain, where hotels, Airbnb hosts, tour operators and friends all default to WhatsApp anyway. You can call and message over the internet using apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime. Your eSIM is a separate digital line, so your physical home SIM and number can stay in the phone for anything important.
It depends where you are from. EU travellers with roam-like-home usually have Spain in their base plan, so check first. UK post-Brexit plans vary, often around 2 to 6 pounds per day, and US carriers typically charge 10 to 12 dollars per day, with T-Mobile and Google Fi often including free but slow basic data. A Blikst plan is also far cleaner than queueing for an airport SIM kiosk at Madrid-Barajas or Barcelona-El Prat after a long flight.
