Sanft, einfach, funktioniert einfach.
The Blikst Reunion eSIM runs on Orange Reunion at 3G and 4G speeds. Orange is the dominant operator on the island and the same brand French travellers use at home, so you get the strongest footprint available. There is no 5G on this plan, but 4G is more than enough for maps, WhatsApp, streaming and uploading photos from your treks across the cirques.
Saint-Denis, Saint-Pierre, Le Port and Saint-Paul all have strong 4G, and the coastal roads hold up well: the Route du Littoral, the N1 around the north and the N2 down the east coast through Saint-Benoit. The three cirques have signal at their main villages, Cilaos, Hell-Bourg and Salazie, but it drops on the connecting trails. Be honest with yourself about Mafate, which is car-free and largely offline an hour past any village, and the Piton de la Fournaise crater trail, which is mostly offline too.
Right after purchase you get a confirmation email with your eSIM details, then you scan the QR code provided to install the profile. Do this on home Wi-Fi before you fly. Activation is automatic: the Orange line registers as you clear French immigration at Roland Garros, so connectivity is up before you collect your luggage. It works identically if you land at Pierrefonds on the south coast instead.
Most modern smartphones are fully compatible with Blikst eSIMs, though a few exceptions exist, so check our detailed compatibility list to confirm your device. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. To check eSIM support quickly, look on iPhone under Settings, General, About for an EID number, or check the network settings on Android. If an EID shows, you are good to go.
It depends on your trip. A short three or four day visit around Saint-Denis and a single cirque works on 1 to 3 GB. A one-week loop covering the coast, a cirque day and a volcano day wants about 5 GB. Two weeks including a multi-day Mafate trek plus coastal driving fit 5 to 10 GB, because the offline hiking days burn almost nothing. Longer stays for work, volunteering or diving benefit from 10 GB.
Yes, tethering and hotspot are supported, so you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or a travelling companion's phone. That is handy in the coastal towns where 4G is strong, for uploading volcano photos or coordinating a 4x4 pickup. Remember signal fades on the interior trails and in Mafate, so a hotspot will only be reliable where the Orange network actually reaches.
This is a data-only plan, so it does not come with a local phone number for traditional calls or SMS. In practice that is rarely a problem on Reunion, where WhatsApp is standard for gite bookings, tour operators and 4x4 guides, and most Mafate refuge operators coordinate entirely through WhatsApp text. You can call and message over the internet using apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime. Because the eSIM is a separate digital line, your physical home SIM and number can stay in the phone.
It depends where you are travelling from. EU travellers have Reunion included in Roam Like at Home because it is a French department, so French or EU carrier plans work at home rates here, and you should check that first. For UK, US and other non-EU travellers, Reunion roaming sits in the premium Indian Ocean tier at around 12 to 15 dollars per day on most carriers. A Blikst eSIM on Orange Reunion is the most straightforward alternative without a shop visit.
